CASE STUDY - McDonald's (WA)

Tecsec Security Solutions supplies CCTV and alarm services to McDonald’s throughout Western Australia. Additionally, Tecsec can customise security solutions upon request.

Challenges

McDonald’s were facing a large breach of security, due to staff forgetting to close the back doors to the store. This put staff at risk, as well as opened McDonald’s up to the potential theft of stock. The current alarm system was a self-contained alarm that would sound a loud audible and visual alarm when the back door was open, switching to a quiet audible alarm when deliveries were being made.

Solutions

In order to combat this problem, our in-house team came up with an innovative solution to trigger an audible and visual alarm in the kitchen when the back door was open. This alarm could be controlled with a switch, to silence the audio in the kitchen, leaving a less obtrusive visual alarm and triggering a soft beeping alarm in the manager’s office. This alarm was designed to be loud enough to alert managers to the open door whilst being unobtrusive enough that the manager could continue to work.

Installation of this system was rolled out across WA stores over a period of a couple of months. This updated system allowed McDonald’s stores to ensure their rear entrances were secure at all times, by warning staff and managers when doors were not properly secure.

Outcome

With the installation of the new alarm system, Tecsec was able to achieve McDonald’s goal to keep their premises secure during opening hours, a time where the internal alarm could not be activated. The new installation kept store managers informed any time the rear door was opened by authorised or unauthorised personnel to help prevent stock removal without the managers knowledge. The system also allowed staff to be kept safe from unwanted intruders by ensuring the rear entrance was secure at all times.
