The WA CCTV Rebate: How to Upgrade Your Security for Half the Price

The Western Australian Government has announced the Small Business Development Corporation (SBDC) Small Business CCTV Rebate, offering eligible retail and customer facing businesses 50% back on new or upgraded internal CCTV installations, up to $2,000.

Applications for the CCTV Rebate open at 10:00am on Monday 19 October 2026. With a limited funding pool (75% allocated to metropolitan WA and 25% to regional WA), demand will be high when applications open.

Here is what you need to know to get your small business ready before funding runs out.

Are You Eligible?

Before applying, make sure your business meets the SBDC’s core criteria. To qualify for the rebate, your business must:

  • Be a customer facing business: Operate a physical storefront or commercial venue selling goods or services directly to everyday consumers (e.g. retail shops, cafes, personal services).
  • Be WA-based: Operate in Western Australia with an active ABN and registered for GST.
  • Have fewer than 20 staff: Maintain a headcount of under 20 employees (including full-time, part-time and casual staff).
  • Be in good standing: Not be insolvent, in administration or a subsidiary of a company with 20 or more staff.

Your business must maintain this eligibility for the duration of the grant funded project.

What Your CCTV System Needs to Qualify

To ensure rebate funding you must submit a quote from a licensed security installer. The SBDC will not accept cheap, off-the-shelf consumer camera kits. Your proposed CCTV setup must meet strict technical specifications:

  • Hard-wired installation: Cameras must be physically cabled (no battery-powered or purely wireless units), with at least one camera directly covering your customer entrance and point of sale.
  • High-definition clarity: All cameras must have a minimum resolution of 5 megapixels (5MP) to ensure clear facial and detail identification.
  • Night vision capability: Infrared or low-light capability is required for clear recording after hours.
  • Ample storage: A dedicated recording unit with a minimum 3-terabyte (3TB) hard drive to maintain continuous footage history.
  • Evidence readiness: Footage must feature automated time and date stamps and be easily exportable in a standard video format via USB.
  • Licensed installation: The system must be quoted by a licensed security agent and installed by a licensed security installer.

At Tecsec, we design commercial CCTV solutions tailored to your premises and prepare an itemised quote that addresses the published technical requirements for SBDC assessment. Rebate approval remains subject to SBDC assessment and available funding.

Don’t Miss Out, Get Your Compliant CCTV Quote

Expert Design That Makes Every Camera Count

Camera resolution is only one part of an effective CCTV system. Placement, viewing angles, lighting and recording settings all influence whether your footage captures the details you need when an incident occurs.

Tecsec starts with an assessment of your premises and security priorities. Our design considers:

  • Customer entrances and service counters: Positioning cameras to capture useful detail where customers enter and transactions take place.
  • High-risk areas: Assessing coverage around merchandise, stock storage and back-of-house areas.
  • Lighting and visibility: Considering bright entrances, changing light levels and after-hours conditions when selecting cameras and their locations.
  • Recording and storage: Selecting a recorder and storage capacity suited to your camera count and operational requirements.
  • Future expansion: Planning a system that can accommodate additional cameras as your business grows.

This attention to detail helps turn CCTV footage into a practical tool for investigating theft, reviewing incidents and resolving disputes.
